.
Molly dimmed the lights and turned on the projector, and Tina’s drawing of angels was projected on the screen behind Tina for her solo. Strands of lights twinkled around the manger scene with Mary and Joseph. The sky backdrop on the manger also twinkled with lights. Each person in the sanctuary held a lit candle, and Tina sang, “Silent Night.” The simplicity of the program revealed the truest of Christmas messages.
Kristen and Chris watched the sanctuary empty. God had provided, and the community celebrated the birth of Christ forgetting their own problems.
“What a lovely service!” Kristen said. “Betty acted like such a doting grandmother. That family has been through so much.”
Chris agreed and added, “Nate would be pleased, and I hope he is watching from heaven. Let me lock the front doors and check the others. I’ll be home soon.” Kristen kissed him on the cheek and went to the narthex, where Chloe and Robbie waited with Molly.
A young man stepped out of the dark corner. Chris recognized him from the hospital.
“Hi. I didn’t want to interrupt,” he said.
Chris asked, “Didn’t I see you at the hospital?”
“I was in the waiting room of the ICU. That was a powerful service. I haven’t been to church in over ten years.”
“What brought you here tonight?” Chris asked.
“I watched a video online of a little girl singing. I also saw someone in the video that I think is my ex-wife, Robin Anderson. I’m Jeff Anderson.”
“Did Robin invite you?” he asked.
“No—she didn’t know I was here.”
“What do you want?”
“I’m not sure, but Tina might be my daughter.”
“Why come back now?”
“Is Tina my daughter?” he asked.
“You’ll have to talk to Robin.”
Jeff paused, and his facial expression suggested shock. “I thought if I left and she was alone, she might get the abortion.” He kept rubbing the back of his neck and clearly was conflicted. Then he asked, “Do you really think Christmas is a time for miracles?”
Chris looked at the sanctuary cross, and he locked the door. “I certainly do, Jeff. Would you like to talk?”
Jeff nodded, and they walked down the hall to Chris’s office.

Book Blast: The Devil’s Assistant Series

Dark Hope (The Devil’s Assistant, Book 1)

After five years of working for the Devil, Claire Cooper believes she lives an otherwise normal life. Until she finds herself in jeopardy for a murder she did not commit. Desperate to save her life and soul, she enters Purgatory, but runs afoul of the Devil's sister, Pagan Queen Mab. Mab has her own agenda and uses Claire to get even with the Devil. Claire learns each ruler is in a race to discover “the girl” in the prophecy to fix time. As Claire peels away clues to the real killer, she realizes she must outwit the Devil’s children or end up a prisoner in Purgatory forever.

On Sale for only $.99 for a limited time!

Dark Awakened (The Devil's Assistant Book 2)

Last spring Claire’s seemingly normal—if not totally screwed up—life was tossed on its head. For five years she’d been one of the damned—a human that knows the truth about the otherworldly among us. She’d worked for The Boss—the Demon King himself—as his administrative assistant, handling everything from early retirements, to Maintenance’s incessant requests for dental.

No one gets dental.

Then she walked into Purgatory—totally not her fault—went back in time, and awakened powers she never knew existed. Now Claire has a prophecy hanging over her head, a diamond ring hidden in her sock drawer, and the blood of a long dead royal running through her veins.

And it’s only going to get worse.

Her vow to live free or die takes a serious hit when she’s forced back under The Boss’s protection. Of course, there’s no protection from fate, or the Bounty Hunter sent to deliver her to Purgatory. And as if being “the girl” in the prophecy wasn’t enough, Claire soon discovers there are three other contenders for her role—two of whom want her dead.

Follow more of Claire’s adventures in Dark Awakened, the second installment of the Devil’s Assistant Series, to find out if she’s lucky enough to escape with her life, or if she’s just the first notch on the next contender’s belt.

Dark Forsaken (The Devil's Assistant Book 3)

Last Spring, Claire was framed for the murder of Junior, the Devil’s oldest hellspawn.
Last Summer, she reawakened the fourth realm, saved the world (after almost destroying it), and wound up with the worst job ever.

Now, Claire’s been locked out of her realm, given an assistant that doesn’t actually assist, and told to handle a small problem in Underworld that might just get her killed.

And to top it all off, Mab’s made one of the contenders her untouchable. So, yeah, you could say Claire’s having one of those days.

Follow more of Claire’s adventures in Dark Forsaken, book 3 of the Devil’s Assistant Series, to find out if Claire can defeat the latest contender, survive the quads, and replace the curator before Harry figures out she’s stolen his blood.

ebook: https://www.books2read.com/DarkForsaken

Dark Contender (The Devil's Assistant Book 4)

One final contender stands between Claire and claiming the Fallen Throne—but Faith isn’t giving up without a fight. Defeating Faith and taking her blood isn’t all Claire has to worry about. She must find the last few drops of her own original blood—before the big three usurp her realm and end any chance of her completing the prophecy.

Mace offers a strong shoulder, but as long as Claire aches for the missing Thanos, she can’t let herself lean on it.

Meanwhile, the Oracle has emerged from a 500-year hiatus to gleefully fling monkey wrenches into Claire’s timeline. Claire loses several hours to one of the hag’s schemes, resulting in Faith getting away with the Prince of Time. Which definitely isn’t part of the prophecy.

Putting the Time King back together again won’t be easy. Even if Claire manages to gather all the parts, nothing fits like it did before. The cracks expose the truth that will change everything…including who’ll be the last man standing by Claire’s side.

Excerpt:

Chapter 1

* * * Stefani * * *

Our group assembled at the dock—silence billowed in the air. We girls were thinking the same thing, with anxious expressions evident on our faces. Our tempt guys stirred quietly. Enrique shifted from foot to foot, standing right behind Melody. Zion was now in the back of our group and continued to look at Cali. I didn’t let her know of his presence. With how his eyes seared her, it was obvious he was in love, and that only created more problems for Cali. Zion didn’t approach her, which seemed to be a struggle for him. He raked a hand through his uniquely pecan-colored hair, his eyes never leaving her.

Dom was at the front. He bored holes into the sand with his eyes. One thing was for certain, this was going to be a long journey home.

Once we boarded, they directed us straight to our suites. Being a coward was a new concept to me, but I was glad for a delay. All thirty-six participants of the Trials were told to be in the commons area within thirty minutes. Well, thirty-four, since Kimi was dead, and who knew if Deidrick was still alive. I couldn’t hide forever. I commanded myself to push those dreary thoughts aside before I went into a panic.

Glimpsing myself in the mirror, I continued to take deep breaths. I hadn’t seen Tobias in six weeks. I should be thrilled about seeing him. But I’d never been more frightened, consumed with terror that he might not want to salvage our relationship. Pull it together, tramp! I chastised myself. Only one way to see how this ended—time to face the music.

Beware: this book is not for the faint of heart, the weak of stomach, or the soft of bowels. In these pages are the blog entries of one of the most depraved serial killers of the 21st century—Slasher Sam.

Taking inspiration from several generations of horror films, Sam guts countless victims in creative ways, and posts these exploits to SlasherSam.com for the world to see, putting readers so close to the action that they’re practically in the splash zone when the blood goes flying.

And is there ever blood—Sam’s a savvy killer, too well-versed in horror film lore to make rookie mistakes, which is why the kill count scores well into the double digits.

Visit www.SlasherSam.com if you dare, just remember: in cyberspace, everyone can hear you scream...

Excerpt

A snap of a twig, a rustle of leaves, her head spins around in fright.
“Who’s there?” she says. “Randy, is that you?”
Silly girl. She’s just signed her own death warrant—as if she hadn’t already when I caught her and her boyfriend smoking weed a few moments ago. I’ve been stalking these two for about half an hour, and now he’s gone off to piss somewhere and she’s about to be offed in the opening scene.
To be fair, she’s exactly the sort of girl you hate to see get killed off so early in a slasher movie. Long blonde hair pours out of a red beanie, framing a face so pretty it could sell moisturiser. A tight white puffer jacket hugs her fantastic figure, and skinny jeans accentuate her long legs and ample ass.
I think I’m in love. But rules are rules. I don’t make them; I just enforce them, and she’s going to die tonight.
“It’s not funny anymore, Randy. I mean it. Quit clowning around and get back here right now. I’m really scared.”
I fight the urge to call back, “You should be.” Instead, the rustle of the bush is her only answer as I move out from my hiding place behind a large evergreen and walk back to the well-worn hiking trail where she’s standing, flaring her flashlight in all directions for any sign of her loser boyfriend.
When she sees me, her eyes grow so wide that it’s comical. Rendered immobile by fright, we both just stand and look at each other for a moment or two—her on the verge of a nervous breakdown, me on the verge of killing her. The tension between us is so thick that you could cut it with my machete. I try. What I cut instead is her head open.
It’s like one of Thomas Savini’s finest special effects, but, oddly, less messy. Blood and brain matter abound, of course, but it’s really more like piercing a coconut than splitting an overripe melon. Either way, the blade makes a satisfyingly heavy thunk sound as it punctures the cerebrum, ensuring that she’ll never get to learn French, read another book, or do anything ever again.
When I pull the machete out of her skull, she plummets like the quality of the Friday the 13th film franchise after Part VII: The New Blood. But I don’t have time to dwell on the disappointing Jason Takes Manhattan or the frankly unwatchable Jason Goes to Hell right now; I shouldn’t have even brought them up, because I’ve got a boyfriend to kill. He’s not my boyfriend, asshole. I mean the boyfriend of the girl I just killed. He’ll be back here at any moment.
Propping the girl up against a nearby tree, I pull the hood of her coat up over her bloody beanie and the gaping wound in her head. Even in death, she’s lovely. Now it looks like she’s just having a wee rest. Well, if you’re stoned or stupid anyway.
Fortunately, the boyfriend is a potent mixture of both. I hear him tearing through the jungle and spouting inane babble and sexual innuendo long before I see him from my hiding place in the black forest, opposite the sleeping dead girl.
“Hey babe, I just saw a really big snake,” he says while he’s still out of view. “Oh wait, it was only my penis. False alarm.” He laughs at his own lame joke. “I’m really horny. We should fuck again, if you’re interested. Seriously, you don’t have a choice, let’s do it.”
Wait, didn’t she call this guy Randy a minute ago? That’s a bit on the nose, don’t you think? It’s like a guy called Bob who can’t swim well, a dick called Richard, or if the parents of that blowhard politician who wants to build a wall to keep the Mexicans out and likes wearing a bad toupee had christened him ‘Racist Asshole’.
When I finally get a visual on this walking-talking meat puppet, he’s strutting up the track like a man relieved. Dressed in a black puffer jacket and a trucker cap—in spite of the fact that it’s the middle of the Goddamn night—he proudly wears a shit-eating grin through a stubbly beard like he won it in a contest. I just can’t wait to end him.
“You sleeping babe?” he says, bending over the resting corpse of his dead girlfriend. “Come on, rise and shine sleepyhead. I’m horny.” When she doesn’t reply, he shakes her. “Come on babe, I’m not kidding around. You need to wake up right now.”
Frustrated, he gives her a short, sharp shove and she flops over.
Impatience vanishes and terror takes control now. Whimpering like a sad puppy whose owners have abandoned it next to a busy highway, he slowly peels back her hood to see exactly the sort of damage that a sharp machete will render to a person’s forehead. He lets out a prodigious scream that’ll continue to ring in my ears a number of hours later, and then flurries around in fright when he feels a soft tap on his shoulder.
It’s me, lumbering behind him in my very best Jason Voorhees impression.
Shock, horror and frank disbelief are plastered all over Randy’s terrified face; for all intents and purposes he is face to face right now with the hockey mask-wearing psycho from the Friday the 13th series. What do you do in that situation? What do you even say?
“What the actual fu—”
But I guess we’ll never know his final words, because I cut him off mid-sentence with a swing of my machete and punt his head away like a soccer ball.

Beta Reading

I have decided to start beta reading. If you would like me to read your book before you publish, feel free to contact me. All of this information can also be found on my page "Beta Reading".

I'm an avid reader, and have been reviewing/blogging for almost a year and a half now. I have recently started beta reading, and would love to work with you! I read a wide variety of genre, but most often read YA/NA. Middle Grade, and Fantasy (all ages) but am willing to read most any genre.

I don't often read romance or contemporary fiction, but am happy to occasionally, so feel free to ask.

I will not read LGBT+ or erotic fiction, but don't mind LGBT+ characters or sex, it just can't be the main focus of the story.

Gore isn't a problem, and I love adult dark fantasy, steampunk horror, and YA/middle grade paranormal horror.

I'll beta read most books for $25, but longer books (like epic fantasy, etc) might be slightly more. I can also take a little less for poetry, short stories, and novella. Just ask.

Turn around is often 1-2 weeks, but might be a little longer on books with over 400+ pages, or during my busy seasons. I also run a blog tour company, so I have to plan around that as well. I read books in first come, first serve order.

You can contact me here, message me, or email me at adventuresthruwonderland@gmail.com

My Monday #10

It's Monday again! I...think I missed last Monday, oops! But I'm happy to say that in the two weeks since I started, by blog tour company is doing good, and I'm excited for the tours to start! We still need more bloggers, so if you are interested, please feel free to sign up! We'd love to have you! There will be a monthly, or bi-monthly giveaway exclusively for tour hosts, so each tour you sign up for will be another entry!

Last week I had to give up my job with Reading Addiction Book Tours to pursue my dream of starting Bookish Adventures Book Tours (Yeah, I changed the name :P) I enjoyed my time with Cami at RABT, but I needed to do this, and it's been a goal of mine since I started blogging last year.

I will still be active in blog tours from many different companies, so I look forward to finding some new favorite books! Meeting new authors, and finding new books is my favorite part of blog tours, and I'm so happy I am a past of this community!

Today I mailed off my first candle since I reopened Tangent Adventures (yay!) and grabbed a few more books at the library. I wanted to get The Gunslinger by Stephen King, and the comic Monstress, but they were checked out, so I'm putting them on hold. I did get The Wrath & The Dawn, Incarceron, and Nevernight though, so I'm excited to get to those! I have a ton of reviews coming up, so it might be a while, but oh well! haha

How has your week been, anything exciting happen? Feel free to share below! And thanks for reading!

My Enemy, My Heart (The Ashford Chronicles #1)

The sea is Deirdre MacKenzie’s home, and the crew of her father’s Baltimore clipper is the only family she loves. Deirdre watches her crew herded into the hold, destined for the notorious Dartmoor prison in England. Though her fate as a noncombatant is uncertain, she knows she must find a way to free her crew.

Kieran Ashford has caused his family one too many scandals. On his way to exile in America, he is waylaid by the declaration of war and a chance to turn privateer and make his own fortune. But he regrets his actions as soon as the rich prize is secured. Now his best chance at redeeming himself in the eyes of his family is to offer Deirdre the protection of his name in marriage.

But love and loyalty clash as Kieran begins to win Deirdre’s heart despite her plot to betray him. Will Kieran’s plan mend the relationship with his family, and can this fated couple find true love despite the secret lies between them?

Bookish Discoveries #2: Moving to Saturdays!

Name of the meme: Bookish Discovery of this Week
Description:
Every Thursday, we talk about something new that we discovered which is book related. It can be something that is recently created or discovered or it can be something old that you just discovered or you are interested in. It can be a book you just read or added to your tbr. It can also be an author, genre, poem, story, word, character, a new trend etc. Basically anything that is related to books. You can also share some news or talk about something that caught your eye.
You can do this every Thurday or just whenever you want to.
If you’re not a blogger or just don’t want to make a blog post, you can also post on Twitter and Instagram, just use the hashtag #bookishdiscoverythisweek.

Ok so I've been really slacking when it comes to getting new content again these last couple of weeks. Sorry! I'm trying to start posting more tags and memes, but the blog tours are so tempting, I have to stop over-booking myself! XD I really have a hard time saying no to good books, and I'm bad for signing up to review EVERY stinking book that catches my eye! Ugh... Haha, And I'm also sorry that my other 'blog' 'job' etc, is spilling over, but I'm so excited to have found this series, and can't wait to share it with all of you! Also so far, no one's signed up for my tours yet, so if any of them interest you, please sign up, or let me know and I can add you to the mailing list for open tours.  So this is my weekly find, the Four Worlds series! (Oh, and this month is ARCs, next month's reviews will be mostly books I have on tour...I told you I have a problem saying no, lol) If you are interested in any of the tours, but don't want to read the book, spotlight and promo posts are fine, it still gets the word out about new books, and that's the goal! :)

Blog Tour will run from October 23th - November 3!

There's a book description, author bio, excerpts, guest posts, and interviews.
The book is open for review! (I have links to the first two, and book three will be ready in September!)

A DIY media packet and simple HTMLs for Blogger and Wordpress will be provided to everybody.

Posts must be up by 10am EST on your scheduled date and does NOT have to be the top post
(but preferably in the top 4!)

What if... your best friend started a rebellion in the middle of a war? your lover awakened a deep evil and helped it grow? your people were too cowardly to face a battle? you stole an ancient power source? you gambled with the fate of the world?

"The characters were well-written and well-developed, the story was clear and enjoyable without being predictable, and there were a couple of evenings I stayed up later than I intended just so I could get to the end of a chapter. If you're a fantasy fan, you're going to LOVE this!" —Amazon review

rewrite The Four Worlds Series, bringing it from a child’s daydream to an adventure young and old can enjoy. Since it is inspired by fairy tales, high magic, and epic fantasy, Angela knows you’ll enjoy your adventures within the Four Worlds.

If you happen to be in Nashville, you’ll most likely find her at a local coffee shop, enjoying a
white chocolate mocha and furiously working on her next book. Make sure you say hello!
